Most users install plugins when they want to make an image gallery in WordPress. There are many plugins to choose from and they come with a great number of special effects and layouts. While testing them, I’ve noticed that some are hard to use and might have too many options for those looking for just a simple gallery without fancy frames or hover effects.
So how can you make one without plugins or without having to code it yourself? Well, it’s easy with WordPress’ built-in image gallery. You can make a very simple gallery, just like the one below.
The first step is to open the post or page you want to add the image gallery in.
- click Add Media just like every time you want to upload an image
- from the left side menu, choose Create Gallery, select the images you want to use from the Media Gallery or upload new ones and the Create a new gallery
- you will be able to choose the number of columns, the image sizes, and also if you want an image grid or a slideshow inserted into your page
- press Insert gallery and you’re done
If you want an image carousel, you will have to install a plugin. For Jetpack users, you will only have to activate the image carousel.
I love using this built-in image gallery because I don’t have to install any other plugins that might slow down my blog and it’s so easy to use.
Did you know about it? Do you use it?
