Selling your products on Etsy is one of the easiest ways to start your business and have your own shop. You don’t have to worry about having a large portfolio to open a shop, or about creating and maintaining an e-commerce site. You just create awesome products and upload them to your shop.
If you have enough experience selling on Etsy and want to refer your blog readers to your shop, you can follow these easy ways to integrate Etsy with your WordPress website. Your customers will still purchase from your Etsy shop, but you will have more control over your audience and you won’t have to rely solely on the Etsy search engine.
Use Etsy mini
Etsy mini is not available anymore. It should still work if you saved the code for your shop.
Etsy provides the Etsy mini widget that you can add anywhere on your website. You can add products in your sidebar or footer using a text widget or you can add them in your posts and pages.
You can find the Etsy mini widget under Your shop > Promote > Etsy mini.
All you have to do is choose what items you want to share (items from your shop or from your favorites if you don’t have a shop), the image size and the layout. Thumbnails will look good in your sidebar while the gallery images are larger and look better in your posts or pages.
Etsy will generate a code that you can copy and paste on your website. If you want to add the products to your sidebar or footer just go to Appearance > Widgets, drag a Text widget to your sidebar or footer area and paste the code. Save the widget and your items will be displayed on your website.
Adding the Etsy mini widget to a post or page is just as easy. Create a new page from Pages > Add new and switch from your Visual editor to your Text editor. The Text editor is where you can paste the code.
If you switch back to your Visual editor you won’t see anything, but if you publish or preview your page, your product gallery will appear. To save your Etsy shop, just publish your page and add it to your navigation menu from Appearance > Menus.
Add direct links to your Etsy shop
If you don’t like the way Etsy mini looks, you can integrate Etsy with your WordPress website by adding a link to your shop in your navigation menu or by creating a product gallery.
How to add a link to your Etsy shop in your navigation menu
This is the easiest way to send your readers to your Etsy shop. Start by going to your Etsy shop and saving your shop’s URL.
Then on your WordPress dashboard, go to Appearance > Menus and edit your navigation menu. Find Custom Links and paste your shop’s URL, name your menu item, and press Add to menu. Your shop link will be the last item on your menu, but you can rearrange your menu by clicking and dragging your shop tab to another position.
Save your menu when you are done editing.
Add images and links to your products
Another easy way to make your Etsy shop more visible is by creating a new page and adding images and links to your products. This way your readers will be able to see your products before they go to your Etsy shop.
I love using the Genesis Easy Columns plugin to create columns and have a better control of the layout of my images and text. Go to Plugins > Add new, search for Genesis Easy Columns and install it. This plugin works even with sites that are not built using the Genesis Framework, but you will have to activate it by going to Settings > Easy Columns.
After you install the plugin, go to your new shop page and you will see 5 new icons added to your toolbar. You can add between 2 and 6 columns. When you click on one of the icons, shortcodes will appear and all you have to do is add your images and links to Etsy between them.
Publish your new shop page and add it to your navigation menu when you are done.
Use the Etsy Shop plugin
Another great way to integrate your Etsy shop with WordPress is by using the Etsy Shop plugin. Go to Plugins > Add new and search for the Etsy Shop plugin by Frédéric Sheedy. After you install it, you’ll receive a message telling you that you need to enter your Etsy API key.
Click on the link to go to the Etsy Shop Options and then on Creating a new Etsy App to find your API key. This will take you to the Etsy Developers website where you can create your app.
Enter the following information, but with your own credentials:
Read the terms and save your app. You will then be redirected to a page that has the API key you are looking for. Save the keystring and go back to your website.
Go to Settings > Etsy Shop, paste your API key and save.
Create a new page and add the following shortcode:
[etsy-shop shop_name=”your-etsy-shop-name” section_id=”your-etsy-shop-section-id“]
With this plugin, you will only be able to display sections of your shop, but if you want to share your whole shop you can create a new section with all your products.
To find the id of the section you want to display, go to your Etsy shop and click on the section you want to display. If you look at the URL you will find the shop name and the id.
Add them to your shortcode and save the page. The shortcode for my shop looks like this:
[etsy-shop shop_name=”ElanBlogStudio” section_id=”15798283″]
That’s it! Your products are now displayed on your website.
With these methods, you will still send your customers to your Etsy site and you won’t be able to edit your products from your WordPress dashboard, but there are also advantages. You have more control over your branding, you can build up your SEO to bring in organic traffic and your blog readers and subscribers will have easier access to your shop.
Let me know if this works for you or you have any questions.
